JerryPhoto_8x8_P1010031 In the aftermath of our 4th of July celebrations, let’s look back to the period between the two world wars. It started with an economic downturn, continued through the “roaring 20s”, and included the crash of Wall Street and the Great Depression. It was not a good period for all Americans.

In the midst of this time of mixed experiences, Calvin Coolidge stood before a crowd in Philadelphia in 1926. This speech he commemorated the signing of the Declaration of Independence 150 years previously. We have included a segment from the beginning of that speech her, but please take time to access the full speech (see References section below).

Indeed, “The things of the spirit come first,” as Coolidge stated. Let us never forget this gift of our Founding Fathers.  GLB
